Freight Forwarders Applaud NSC On Ease Of Doing Business

Freight forwarders have expressed satisfaction with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) on policies and projects being promoted by the ports economic regulator which are targeted at achieving ease of doing business at the ports.

Interface with service providers and customs service commands by the Council leadership and management staff on ease of doing business have  impacted positively on services at the ports.

Two Custom Officers Declare Wanted Over Importation of 661 Riffles

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced two of its senior officers needed over the importation of 661 pump-activity rifles into the nation.
The arms, which were captured at the Lagos port, were covered with steel entryways and other stock great.

Vehicle Importers Rush to Beat December 31 Deadline

As the December 31, 2016 import restriction order of vehicles through the land border draws close, importers now import between 100 and 150 vehicles daily as against the 20 or 30 vehicles imported daily before the order.

According to the Customs Area Controller of Seme Border, Mr Victor Dimka, importers are hurrying to push in their vehicles to beat the due date.

Dimka said that customs has also increased vigilance at the border to ensure that after the deadline no vehicle would be allowed to enter the country. Also, he said that the total ban on imported rice is very effective and that customs would ensure that Nigeria was free of  imported rice.

Cargo Examination: Regulators, Operators Blames Corrupt Importers

Regulatory agents and terminal operators have blamed corrupt practices by importers for their presence and high level of physical examination of cargo at the country's seaports.

Various agencies and physical cargo examinations waste time and are reportedly responsible of the high cost of doing business in Nigeria.

Some importers, according to the regulators and operators, are questionable and this makes Customs officials to suspect any cargo they bring into the country.

How NCS Uncovered 200 parcels of Cocaine After 42days of Intelligence Profiling at Tin Can Port

More facts have emerged on how the Tin-can Island Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), a revenue collector for import, excise duties and taxes, effected the seizure of 200 parcels of cocaine (a strong stimulant) allegedly imported alongside 'Virgin Cellulose Tassma for concrete application'. The exercise came after a 42 days of strategic planning and intelligence profiling.

The Command had earlier declared that the cocaine weighing 214.732kg, was the highest volume seized in the nation in 10 years. It was intercepted in one of the 17×20 container No CMAU 045195/0 said to contain 'Virgin Cellulose Tassma for cement application' belonging to Nigerite Nigeria Limited, and which Elevation Transaction Limited was the agent.
