Everybody wants return on every investment, no matter how little. People still prefer that even if they couldn't realize expected profit from import Business, they should realize the money invested. I don't want police, or any other Government enforcement agencies to come after me for importing any goods, either you i guess?.
We are blogging out this so as to clear some misconception about contraband in relation to importation of goods / or commodities. We want you to understand that there are two categories of contraband. The first is not totally prohibited, and as such are permissible for importation, usually with higher duty rate (View list of Not totally Prohibited goods).
For your data records, majority of contraband goods are permissible for importation. let's take Spaghetti /Noodles as our case study here – If you visit Nigeria Customs Website at https://www.customs.gov.ng/ you will see a column tagged "Quick Search CET Tariff" on the left hand side of the page. Enter this bracketed H.S. Codes (1902.1100) to know if truly Spaghetti / Noodles are prohibited?
The fact is you will be prompted to a page where you will find out that importation of Spaghetti/Noodles attract 20% Duty, with additional 5% VAT.
