Cargo Clearance Delay! Nigeria Customs Shut Nahco, Sahco and Courier Shed -

This morning barricades by Federal operation unit (FOU) of Nigeria Customs near the entrances of major customs bounded warehouses at the Hajj camp/Cargo terminal of Lagos International Airport has opened another new challenge between Nigeria customs (Ikeja Command), importers / or Freight agents.

Geokaz Global clearing operations arrived Cargo terminal of MMA as early as 8:30am for daily clearing routines at major customs bounded warehouses including Sahco, Nahco and Courier.

FEDERAL OPERATION UNIT OF CUSTOMS

It became reality at about 9:30am (the time expected of customs to release shed key gates to major operators of bounded warehouses) that things are not going to be normal today.

Though there is no official information/or circular from AC or DC of customs in charge of Lagos Airport Cargo terminals.  There are facts from stake holders that the closure of warehouses was due to improper documentation, inability to explain exit of cargo from ground handlers' warehouses (Nahco & Sahcol). Other reasons were inability to by customs to trace customs release document, evidence of payment of import duty and other Statutory levies. The warehouses were shut indefinitely, thereby halting cargo clearing operations at the cargo terminals of MMA.

Before today, there were speculation that customs had informed Freight agents of non remittance of import duty / levy by over 4000 businesses that imported goods into Nigeria within few Months.

As at 3:00pm today, meetings and consultations were going-on between major stake holders.
