Freight and Clearance service section needs to know what exactly, before offering his advice / or recommendation on what shipping plan / budget is good for your shipment...
Your Freight and Clearance service section would Ask Questions such as;
1. Nature of Goods / Commodity (i.e, whether personal effects, equipment, household goods, manufacturing plants, Heavy Duty equipment, Chemicals, and or brand in case of Car)
2. Estimate Weight in Kilo OR pound (If no idea, not problems as your shipper would help resolve that later)
3. Country of Origin (i.e. City where the goods are coming from)
4. Preferred mode of Transportation (Air Freight OR Sea Freight)
5. Delivery timeline ( Normal is 5-6days OR Emergency/ express delivery - 2-3days)
6. Delivery Address (i.e, whether Lagos, Abuja, Owerri, P/H, Kano, Osun and so on)
Note: Other relevant question, related to Form "M", RAR, insurance and Invoice are usually reserve for importers of goods for Corporate organizations and merchandise.
Custom Clearing Stages-For Air Clearance In Nigeria
First stage- Responsibility of Consignee, Carrier (Airline) and Clearing Agent:
1. Requirement for Company / Organization: to clearing shipment at the cargo terminal of MM international Airport, Lagos: Your clearing agent will need an Authority Letter dully signed by you, with complimentary card of the company representative also signed overleaf. 2. Individual requirement for Individual: to clearing shipment at the cargo terminal of MM international Airport, Lagos your clearing agent will need proof of identity e.g, National I.D card, International Passport, OR valid Driving license.(Original copy)
a. Make available a shipper’s copy to your clearing agent
b. Next is the confirmation of your document's arrival from your carrier(airline)
c. Confirmation of consignment arrival. Its very possible that your document arrives without your consignment. But don't worry, your consignment is secure and safe. Your agent can talk with your carrier / airliner and give you new date of arrival.
Second Stage-Responsibility of Clearing Agent, Customs, and Nahco:
a. Your agent will need to confirm if your document has been sent by your carrier (airline) to NAHCO advice section. He can however facilitate this.
b. Your clearing agent will after confirmation, visit NAHCO rating section to rate your consignment (you can however get quick and free quote for most of the goods allowed for clearing in Nigeria)
c. After rating, your agent will then make payment in a Bank accredited by airline to collect monies for her.
d. Then Nahco advice section will issue an official receipt, (your agent will have to provide all necessary document required by law at this level.
e. Having gone the above, your agent will now take all the aforementioned documents and receipts to vetting department. By now your agent should be on his way to the storage / warehouse, where he will also provide and confirm some documents to the Customs, Nahco, SSS, anti-bomb, NDLEA before given access to conclude the clearing of your consignment. The conclusion of your consignment clearing ends at the Customs examination department.
